The 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan is this German automaker's first compact SUV. This 4-door wagon seats five and is powered by a turbocharged 200-hp 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. A turbocharged 2.0-liter "clean diesel" may become available later in the model year. The 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan is available with either front- or all-wheel drive. No low-range gearing for off-roading is offered with the AWD models. There are two transmission choices: a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front side airbags, rear side airbags, and curtain side airbags. Other available features include a navigation system that includes real-time traffic information, a fold-flat front passenger seat, a sunroof, and a 30-gigabyte hard drive to store data and digital audio files. The Tiguan goes on sale in the summer of 2008.

By 2010 everyone and their Brother will have Biodiesel options in the USA to compete with the Tiguan. Wonder how V's lack of reliability will stack up to those of Honda, and Subaru when THEY have their Diesel in the USA by the same ----Late date of 2010.

Very Very Very competitive price given the engine. Good for base Tiguan buyers, bad for those of us with GLIs and GTIs. All in all, a very surprising and competent move, this thing will definitely have no problems getting on the freeway and the 2.0T does provide a little better fuel economy.
