TOP 5 - Toyota Motor to cut production at Kyushu unit in Japan

Will reduce production of large vehicles at its Kyushu unit in Japan due to declining sales in North America and Europe, the Nikkei business daily reported Thursday, without citing a source. Toyota Motor Kyushu Inc. has reduced its production target to 370,000 vehicles during the current financial year, a 16% decline from the previous financial year, from 400,000 units targeted earlier. Toyota Motor Kyushu mainly produces sport utility vehicles such as the Highlander, and 90% of its production is exported, the report added.

BMW AG cars made more progress in reducing vehicle fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions than any other carmaker last year, an environmental group said Monday.But Transport & Environment, an independent European group campaigning for cleaner modes of transport, warned that the German luxury automaker and the car industry overall are still a long way from a proposed EU target to cut the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by cars.
