GM/Ford Merger - TOP 10 Auto News Today in Loqu.com How desperate are Detroit's carmakers getting? At a few recent meetings, General Motors (GM) executives have mused aloud about the prospects of a merger with rival Ford Motor (F), BusinessWeek has learned. But the idea went no further than some internal banter, according to sources briefed on one of the meetings. The prevailing view among GM executives in the discussion is that it would be a huge distraction at a time when management needs to focus on a turnaround. Plus, Ford has many similar problems.

Mazda has announced plans to increase the fuel efficiency of its vehicles by 30 percent in the next seven years through the use of new engine technology and lighter materials. By 2015, Mazda's entire range of vehicles will roll off the assembly line some 220 pounds lighter compared to the vehicles it offers today, with a diet that includes a new three-layer wet paint system, along with more innovative materials, including carbon neutral bioplastics due to arrive in 2013.

TOP 1 - Obama will pay the large amount ransom money

U.S. carmakers need a boost in federal research spending and incentives for consumers to adopt new and expensive technologies, General Motors Corp.'s top executive told Barack Obama Thursday.
Obama kicked off a forum with top business and academic leaders with a question to GM Chairman and Chief Executive Rick Wagoner, asking what the next president can do to help domestic automakers adjust to rising gas prices and increasing environmental concerns.
