Both the Boxter S and the SLK 350 have 300 hp and the Boxter costs another ,000. You get a 7-speed auto with the SLK, and with the Boxter you get a Tiptronic.. whooptydoo.

The reason is that weight by itself changes fuel economy by only 1-2% per 100 lbs. So, the move would only make sense from a purely fuel economy point of view if the Polo was supplied with smaller engines.

That was the 2002 model, it was facelifted since, and it was styled to resemble its smaller brother Lupo, and, to a lesser extent, the New Beetle... fail

Gas is /gallon and they are still "considering" bringing the Polo here. Quite the brain-trust they have running VW :-/

Maybe that's because the 2.0T in the GTI is already a 5 year old engine.

The new 272hp 2.0T in the Audi TT-S quattro gets the same milage as the 200hp GTI, not to mention the far superior milage from the 211hp unit in the A4/A5.
